The region of Dalecarlia is heavily promoted as "typical" Swedish. With a history of independancy from authority it has been a rich region due to the forests, mining and refining of its products. The cultural heritage has given the region its status as "the heart of Sweden". From south to north of Dalecarlia you are invited to participate in different events.
Midsummer is a popular time with the curious poles that christianity was unable to remove. The midsummer ploes are a celibration of fertility and is a heritage from prechristian time. The "dance at the barn" is another typical Swedish custom where you can attend at many places in Dalecarlia. Folkmusic and folkdance are often played and danced at such places. Take the chance and learn! The atmosphere is always great!
Take a boat across the Siljan lake, visit Orsa bear parc, go to lake Grövel and hike on both sides of the Swedish/Norwegian border or why not go to Dalhalla (picture above). Dress warm because in the evening, even in summertime it gets cold down the old mine. During the whole summer there are events of musical and theatrical nature. In august at the final evening there is a fire-work, saluting the end of summer.
In Dalecarlia if you hike in the woods, there are several trails with possibilities of staying the night, you might come across bears, wolfs, elks and deers. Magnificent animals.
Dalecarlia is the hostess of many sports events throughout the year: The mountain bike competition in Ludvika in August (40-50 km tough terrain), "Vasaloppet", 90 km ski competition (in memory of the escape of the Swedish king to be in the 16th century), Sweden ski games and Swedish rally are all events that you can attend every year.
