Dr. Elieser Tarigan, a graduate of ESES from 2002/2003, has visited SERC in October 2008. After graduating from ESES Elieser studied for a PhD in the area of solar drying at the King Mungkuts University of Technology Thonbury, Thailand. After finishing his PhD he returned to teach physics at the University of Surabaya. Currently the University of Surabaya is expanding its 3rd campus in Trawas, a rural area of the East Java Province. At this campus it is planed to establish a research center in the field of renewable energy and it is also projected to offer courses in solar energy. The aim of the visit was to discuss possibilities of collaboration between SERC/ESES and his University in the area of renewable energy. The visit is funded by at grant of the Sw
edish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) within the Linnaeus-Palme program.
Elieser was giving a guest lecture on solar drying for the ESES students and the SERC staff and visited among others the PV system on the roof of the rescue station and the biomass cogeneration plant in Falun. In November Frank Fiedler from SERC will carry out a return visit in Indonesia.
