Welcome to the European Solar Engineering School!

The European Solar Engineering School (ESES) provides a unique education in solar engineering at Högskolan Dalarna. The one year Masters program is based on research work at the Solar Energy Research Center (SERC). The program provides proficiency in all main solar engineering subjects and allows the students after graduating to work as experts in the solar industry and in academic reserach. This webpage is made by actual and former ESES students and provides information about the program, the life in Borlänge and serves as a meeting point for current, former and prospective students.

Above the new ESES class, the eleventh batch since the start of the Masters programme, together with Richard Kohlström.

During January and February guest lectures were provided for the PV-Hybrid design course. As every year Christoph Emde, an ESES student from 2003/2004, was lecturing on solar pumping, generators, inverters and MPP tracking. Christoph works with the German pump manufacturer KSB. He is in charge of development projects for PV pumping and electrical equipment to control and monitor pumping systems.

Another guest lecture was provided by Anthony Pereira. He is the President & CEO of the New York based company Altpower. Altpower is a turn-key PV system provider and is specialized on solutions for building integration. Anthony showed the students many interesting and challanging examples of PV building integration for extreme conditions in high buildings in New York and other good examples of PV design work. He addressed also issues beside the engineering work e.g. regulations, subsidies and how to organize the installation work.

Translated from the newspage of Högskolan Dalarna:

Annabell Helmke is studying for a master's degree in solar engineering at Dalarna University. Her thesis will be about an "active solar house, using both active and passive technologies to exploit solar energy”. A demonstration house in Regensburg will be the subject of studies by including energy generation and energy consumption. Chris Bales, Senior Lecturer in Energy and Environmental Engineering at Dalarna University, is Annabell Helmke’s supervisor.

Annabell Helmke comes from Germany and graduated from the Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften in Hamburg. A training was mandatory in her program.
"I searched for an internship at SERC, Borlänge, who has long experience and is leading in solar technology.”

During her internship, which started in August 2008, Annabell decided to study the Master program in solar engineering at Dalarna University.
"It is a unique program that does not exist somewhere else," says Annabell Helmke. “The teachers have a strong commitment to renewable energy technologies,” she reveals. “Here in Borlänge you find a great attitude. Many teachers are passionate about their topic, and their dedication is contagious," says Annabell.
After graduating Annabell Helmke is longing to get to work practically with energy issues.
"I want to work in a place with a nice atmosphere and a great attitude. My job has to be meaningful for both me and society, "says Annabell.
